Greenstar Edmonton occupies a 192,000ft² building in Edmonton spread over an area of nine acres. It has a capacity to handle about 350,000 tonnes of waste annually.
The site processes both co-mingled and source-separated waste, a high percentage of which is plastic film waste. Many processors deal with plastics at the pre sort stage and remove film etc. by hand. The high volume of plastics within the waste stream at this site creates a significant problem in terms of storage space in bunkers.

The Impact solution enables the film to be extracted and conveyed using air; directly to a baler which immediately compacts the material into bales.
There are a total of 13 separate extraction points within the plant, 7 in the pre sort cabin and an additional 6 in the post sort (quality control) cabin.
Film waste can create havoc within a modern recycling plant contaminating the fibre line and wrapping around sorting equipment, particularly disc screens. The film vac system has become an essential part in the recycling and separating process.
We were given the brief to provide a system which would be incorporated into the existing plant with minimum space and disruption to the operation.
